| Good Points | - Dark Beast, we need more of him. |
| Bad Points | - These other schmucks can die in a fire. |
| Good Points | - It is pretty much like an episode of Looney Tunes. |
| Bad Points | - It is pretty much like an episode of Looney Tunes. |
| Good Points |
- Good foreboding, reminded me a bit of Dune and the God Emperor. - The art is good enough for me to give it four stars. |
| Bad Points |
- Microwhatevers. - Can someone please tell me if this is the real Son of Hulk, or if the whole "Son of " was just a mindfart someone had? |
| Good Points |
- Interesting character. - The "curse" is actually some kind of curse and not some half-assed excuse for superpowers. - The Demonbitch looks freaky and sick. |
| Bad Points |
- The twist at the end was a bit too much, of course if I can suspend my suspension of disbelief at Dexter I can't really complain here. - There is a 20% chance that this book will never ever continue. |
| Good Points |
- The art is very good. - The story seems to be going interesting places and the overall theme is intriguing. - I look forward to reading the rest of this. |
| Bad Points | - Can't find any bad points really, sure I could say it was lacking in action but it's not that kind of story at its core... I think.... |
| Good Points |
- An awesome Conan story, captures what I expected perfectly. - Great art, body parts popping up all over the place. - Works just as well even if you have no idea who Conan is. |
| Bad Points | - I would like to say "That it is Just a one-shot" here, since I now have this perverse voyeuristic urge to see what more Darick Robertson would do with Conan, but as a one-shot it works rather well. Plus if he did get a regular gig writing he might not be able to do the art in the Boys so... I'll just leave it at that. |
| Good Points |
- Quentin Quire and Martha Johannson best story of the lot. - The Epic Soulsearching Journey of Gambit going to get toilet paper, I found that a bit funny. - Jubilee and Quentin story had great/good art respectively. |
| Bad Points |
- The Northstar thing, boring as shit. - SCREAMY POINTY WOMAN in the Northstar thing and overall poor art in that thing. |
| Good Points |
- Good story, better than good art. - Lex Luthor, Science Bastard - Krypto vs Dinosaurs - Superboy Journal-thing finally ends |
| Bad Points | - I wish it had been a bit more dramatic, with the hole Journal thing like a paradigm shift for Superboy but it ended on a pretty obvious note. |
| Good Points |
- The book isn't bad (oh yeah, I'm trying to be serious in this part by the way) just not as awesome as I had hoped. - The art is rather good. - The camera guy, who I guess is a new character (let me know if I'm wrong), is kind of interesting, at least in flashbacks. - I will be checking out the next issues to see what happens here. |
| Bad Points |
- It didn't get my attention, I kinda wish it had since I enjoyed the WWH Front Line book. - Some weak points, such as why Volstagg was just walking unhindered about without being apprehended or at least shot at. - I seriously doubt that Volstagg hasn't tried burgers yet, I mean the guy LIVES to eat. |
| Good Points |
- This is ARES! (Do it in the "THIS IS SPARTA!" voice for hilarious effect). - Great story, great characterizations. - The end was as perfect as it could get, even though I kinda wished for a lesser ending. |
| Bad Points |
- I'm kinda sad it's over so soon. - Ditto for the mortals. |
| Good Points |
- A very good start. - It got my attention by the balls and I want to read more. - Interesting characters and possibilities. |
| Bad Points | - I wish there was a bit more depth to the first issue, like more about Max and the cause of his motivations. But that is coming in the next issues I guess. |
| Good Points |
- Cock-Cannon. - Malak, the Angel of Despair and Anathema to Doorknobs. - Heavenly cars. - A FUCKING COCK-CANNON, WHAT MORE DO YOU PEOPLE NEED? |
| Bad Points | - Every issue is a step closer to the end of the series. |
| Good Points |
- Interesting concept and setting. - Well thought out characters. - Great dialog. |
| Bad Points | - Might start a bit slow for some readers. |
| Good Points |
- Art takes the center stage and impresses. - The Goon is Back! Yet again! |
| Bad Points | - Nothing I can put my finger on. |
| Good Points |
- Red Skull is actually an interesting villain, for once. - Spectacular art, kudos to Carlos, Dexter Vines w. Thomas Palmer, Allen Martinez and Justin Ponsor. - I can't wait to see what happens next, Millar has got me hooked again! - Nerd Hulk is probably the guy I like the most of the entire new rooster. |
| Bad Points |
- The Team needs more introduction I feel. |
| Good Points |
- The art is rather good. - It isn't BAD. - At least it's something new besides "Frank Castle kills mobsters". |
| Bad Points |
- It isn't AWESOME, just mediocre. - I felt the characterizations were a bit off. |
| Good Points |
- If you need the comfort of knowing that there is a god out there, read this book to change your mind. - Super-insane Science-buggery one would expect only Warren Ellis to bring to life. - Severely Good Artwork, inside it and the covers. |
| Bad Points | - None at all. |
| Good Points |
- Dicky hat returns. - Decent art. - Good aerial action sequence. |
| Bad Points |
- I expected more honestly. - Death toll not high enough. |
So, yea or nay? Yea for the moment, it can go places I think. If it can work as a Holmes story it will be worth it, but I think it can just as easily fail at both a Holmes and a Zombie story, not convinced yet but I am interested in checking out the next one.
| Good Points |
- It wasn't a half-assed attempt to lure zombie-readers in. - Art was rather good. - Suddenly Automaton out of Nowhere |
| Bad Points |
- The dialog did sometimes piss me off, I hate lower-class-speak. - It did get my attention but I didn't get really involved yet. |
Ok, so what can I say? Read this book? Sure I can say that. Read this book. That's it.
| Good Points |
- Patton would have pissed his pants. - Well fleshed out ensemble characters we probably will never see again, of course we can always hope these poor schmucks survive.... somehow.... - The recruits look a bit like Rammstein for some reason, which isn't un-cool. |
| Bad Points | - It isn't 500 pages long. |
The book isn't bad, the dialog is pretty good and the art is shiny enough for me not to be bothered. It did feel a bit short and forced in some parts which 4-6 extra pages could have fixed neatly.
| Good Points |
- Hulk is coming back, "sooner". - The art is good, rather good indeed. - Interesting story, good dialog. - Managing to out-smart Banner in a halfway believable way. |
| Bad Points |
- Lackluster ending, felt forced. - Needed more pages to fit in the Waynesboro parts better. |
Who would I recommend this to? No one I know of, if you are a fan of Azrael you might like it I guess, or you might hate it since this is a replacement-character from some other Bat-book and not the original one. So, final verdict? I don't think I will even bother to check out the next issues and I hope that Fabian will be put on another book where he can actually do something cool.
| Good Points | - Six Months, Six Days, and Six Hours until the nightmare is over. |
| Bad Points |
- While reading it, I just wanted it to end. - Plot dumps are lame, even if they come courtesy of Batman. - Stiff dialog, mediocre art, boring story. |
So.. all in all? Why? The Post-OMD Spider-Man was pretty good, I mean they really pulled out all the big guns to make the fans happy after the shitty end to OMD. I have serious reservations about the merit of bringing up one of the most horrible arcs in comic book history. I can see Quesada saying these words: "Hey kids, I know you were all a bit miffed at OMD, but guess what! We're continuing the Clone-saga! So SUCK ON IT! HAHAHAHAHAHHAH". Truly a great man, a great troll. I salute you and your spectacular trolling skills, but I can't help but think that this might hurt the book in the long run.
| Good Points | - Kaine looks a bit like Rob Zombie, except not half as crazy. |
| Bad Points |
- Clones, didn't work for Spider-Man the first time or Star Wars. I mean, clones are soooooo 1995! |
So? Final Words. Read this book, if you are easily scarred do it anyway because then I can laugh at you. That sums it up I guess.
| Good Points |
- Horsecock. - This is how Ham Radio should be like. - River-scene only strengthens my comparisons to Lord of the Rings. - Oh SHIT!-ending |
| Bad Points | - Boogercocks, there are only two more issues until this is done. |
What is my final say on this book? Will I recommend it to people who liked the Maxx? Maybe, but I think I'll wait until the next issue drops before taking that call. Would I recommend it to people who watch Robot Chicken? Probably not, it doesn't come off as a book that would be something people who watch 30 second sketches of pop and cultural icons do out of character stuff would be able to sit down and enjoy.
Of course, if I was reading the first issue of the Maxx without having read the rest (or watched the series) I might have had doubts about that too. Still the main character feels lacking in substance, I can't put this down as good or bad point since it is probably what the book is going to be about, a character who finds his place in the world, which might be interesting to read about.
| Good Points |
- The art is good. - The characters are interesting. - The story has huge potential. |
| Bad Points | - Some of the plot felt forced. |
Still... not hating this book does not mean I will be lenient. Having actually read some of these before I see that not much has changed since issue 20, the "evil one" keeps doing stuff and the "good one" keeps trying to stop her, hilarity and sexual positions ensue. The story is boring, the lettering is letters on a page, the art... is worth another look, wink wink nudge nudge.
Do I have any hopes that it might improve? No.
Will I pick it up again on a nostalgic whim? Probably.
| Good Points | - Boobs |
| Bad Points | - Not enough boobs |
So, final words. It was not what I expected, usually this is a good thing, in this case it just made me consider white-outing X-MEN and scribble in with magic marker "NAMOR - TEH SUBMARINOR!". I just feel ripped off a bit, since this really, at its core, isn't an X-Men story, I feel Norman could have done some interesting shit with them, the X-Men, instead. As a Namor story it ain't bad, it had its "FUCK YEAH!" moments and weird science shit which I loved, also the ending was pretty decent, even with the complete and utter failure for Norman to actually do any lasting damage. As a Norman Osborn story, it falls flat, when he does think things through it usually works out, which he didn't do this time, this is an example off pretty much just Supervillainy 101; "Failing with your devious plans". I would have liked some more plotting and mindfucks from Osborn, which I know he can do when he actually does put his mind to it.
| Good Points |
- We also spliced in some shark stuff too, just for shits and giggles! - Dr. Nemesis is awesome. - Nice details adding latitude and longitude, I had my fun plotting them into maps.google.com. (see followup in bad section) |
| Bad Points |
- The title seems odd, considering it is about Namor with special guest stars The X-Men. - Magik and Pixie missed the Norwegian sea by about half a country, teleporting them smack dab into the middle of Norway. |
So, I am not convinced that this book has any merit, I would be happy to be proved otherwise in the following issues of the series. Of course, I don't expect them to turn Supermans origin story on its head but I would have liked something more... engaging. I wanted to read this book and be entertained, I just feel like I just read any old Superman origin. I mean, I still don't know what exactly makes this, excepting some cosmetic changes, vastly different from what we already know?
| Good Points |
- The art was nice - Superman looks adorable in the last panel. - Lex Luthor seems like a spazzed out tweaker and a ginger, no wonder he turned out evil. |
| Bad Points |
- Didn't get my attention. - I threw up a little bit in my mouth, this could of course have been unintentional and unrelated to this book. |
So should you pick this up? If you have a nostalgic feeling whenever you see something from the 80's, yes... and no. This isn't your fathers Galactica! It ain't bad, I still like my first impression better than the one I got after actually reading the book. I found some parts of this book very interesting, the whole "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you... and to hear the lamentation of their women"-shtick Zee did was amusing, even though that kid is fucken annoying.
| Good Points |
- This ain't a re-telling of the 80's show. - Space drunks! - MICHAEL BAY WOULD BE PROUD! |
| Bad Points |
- This is based on the 80's show. - They didn't kill Zee in this issue. - No Cylons in the episode. |
Curse you Pat, I was planning on reviewing this ;D Ah well, guess I'll have to review something else now, still good to see it reviewed it does deserve the recognition it gets here. I'm not all that much of a fan of the art, still it could be a lot worse, I just feel it's too bland, still it doesn't get in the way of enjoying the story.
| Good Points |
- It continues to be one of the best books out there - The book feels different from every other "superpower" book, which is quite interesting |
| Bad Points | - Malia should just have waited a decade or four, but nooooo she had to PMS all over the place |
So to sum this book up? I will be picking up the next issues, just to see where everything goes. The art and story is excellent, there were sadly no "OH SHIT!" or "FUCK YEAH!" moments for me, some mild "Yeah!" parts but nothing extraordinary, no not even the Howard The Duck cameo. But all in all a strong book, that I hope will blow us away in the next three issues.
| Good Points |
- Tony Stark is Back and not even close to sober! - Tony is like the rest of us, down to his last 100 million dollars. We can identify. - He totally injected his nanite army into that chick! - Awesomely detailed art. |
| Bad Points | - A bit of a slow start. Hopefully it kicks into OH-SHIT-gear next issue. |
The book isn't bad, just wish it tried to be something more than a sequel to a horror movie. It did get me emotionally involved, of course I was mostly yelling out obscenities at the dumbass. While performing my "Cujo" impersonation, with all the rabid frothed yelling, I noticed some character traits glowing through, so the characters are being fleshed out somewhat and some are quite interesting. Now it's time for my happy-happy-meds. I will be checking out issue #3, just to see if someone, hint hint, bites the dust.
| Good Points |
- Infected finally did what I wanted on the last panel. - Adequate levels of violence and drama, but no drama llama in sight. |
| Bad Points |
- This one guy makes redshirts look like professional survivalists. - I don't think they will ever make it to London, which would have been quite the roadtrip. |
This is a superb adaption, no doubt. The art is fantastic, there may not be as much comic book violence or onomatopoeia (phew) floating around to hold an ADHD-suffering reader, but those with some patience will be rewarded for it.
| Good Points |
- Great story. - Great Art. |
| Bad Points | - One panel of art got copy-pasted, my only bad point this week. |
| Good Points |
- Some decent "WTF JUST HAPPENED" moments. - Adequate Violence Levels. - I can't wait to see what happens next (but I guess I will have to). |
| Bad Points |
- What happened last time? - So, I guess issue #8 will be out some time in 2012? |
All in all? I think this book might turn out okay, the first issue had a bit of a slow start that seems to be moving into high gear. The finale might turn out to be something out of the ordinary at least. The only serious problem I have with the book is that the badguys seem to be more in the Z-list category and I can't really perceive them as a huge threat, at least not when compared to Superman-zombies or Martian Maneaters.
| Good Points |
- Flamethrowers. - Rather Good Dialog - Fine looking' art. |
| Bad Points |
- The Zombified Bat-Badguys are kinda lame. - Cry some more Red Robin, Cry some more. |
So what of this book? I can't say for sure that I will continue to read it, it hasn't blown me away. It does raise some excellent points, such as "Why aren't superheroes fixing the world?". The drugdealers, the fucked up nations around the world that even Aqualad could fix in a day, the zombies in Africa. All valid questions, but there is something missing for me, some "FUCK YEAH" moments that never seem to come, it's just too melancholy for my tastes.
| Good Points |
- Decent art. - Has some good points about the nature of superheroism. - Could potentially go down the path that lead to "Kingdom Come", which would be interesting. |
| Bad Points |
- Glowing Cable-Eye. - The book didn't really grab my attention, or blow me away. |
All in all? This issue is a great example of why this is one of the books I review whenever I get a chance to. While there are things I might get a bit miffed about, I tend to let my suspension of disbelief try to overcome those, an example in this issue is the "Ultrasonic Virus". I just hate stuff like this. Sound as lifeforms... urgh... okay, deep breaths, just ignore it and it will go away. Sound virus regardless, best book this week? Probably, so read it or the Plutonian will throw you into hot molten magma!
| Good Points |
- The Plutonians logo explained. - Did not see the penultimate panel coming, serious kudos for mind blown. - This books keeps getting more and more interesting, I am hooked, thank god Waid is King at Boom! or we could have had another "Empire" on our hands. |
| Bad Points | - Sound virus. |
All in all? FUCKING READ THIS BOOK! YA DUMB TITS! I will violate anyone who doesn't read this book with a fucking jackhammer! What I mean by that is that you should read this fine piece of literature, jackhammer is of course an optional reading supplement.
| Good Points |
- Help Mah Dicky Hat. - Tell Norad To Order Weapons Hold. - Uh-Huh. |
| Bad Points | - Pebble-Sweat. |
So, will I continue to read this book? Yes I will, even after those harsh words. Why? Because Michael A. Nelson is writing it, who I have some knowledge of, seeing as he is/was a writer of "Zombie Tales", "Cthulhu Tales" and "Fall of Cthulhu". If I were to nominate a comic book writer to be added to wikipedia it would surely be him. So I know this guy can write great stuff, therefore I am pretty much assuming that he will deliver something that won't be a generic piece of crap, even if the first issue might be a bit of that classification. I sure hope I am right, because when Mike A. Nelson delivers he delivers epic stuff, and I love the whole 28 Days Later setting. Alex Garland could be to blame for the slow/generic start, since he is supposedly the plotter of this story, where "plot" is a vague roadmap to events that Michael A. Nelson are writing.
| Good Points |
- Art is good enough. - There will be blood. - It is at least something new. |
| Bad Points |
- Not the most original plot I've seen. - I wasn't drawn in immediately, but I won't give up just yet. |
So, should you pick this up? If you are a Punisher fan, yes. If you like horror movies with inbred folks out in the sticks eating other folks, yes. If you are expecting this book to be about a brutal and ruthless Punisher who strangles people with their own intestines, no.
| Good Points |
- It is a rather fun book. - Punisher vs Redneck Cannibals is a good idea - Best Punisher book this week, according to yours truly. |
| Bad Points |
- Feels too PG-13 at the moment. - While the setting is interesting, the plot feels too mundane. - Nothing, I feel, has been done to make it more than merely a "Punisher vs. The Redneck Cannibals". |
So, do I recommend it? No. But I will bet a very small amount of cash that Kal-L will be popping up in the continuation of the Blackest Night saga so I guess you're up shit creek if you don't read this book, unless of course the plot doesn't improve drastically then you can just read the wikipedia entry "Black Lantern Superman wakes up in Smallville, fails to kill Ma' or anything else and then goes off to the Blackest Night finale"
| Good Points |
- Wasn't as boring as Blackest Night Batman - Rainbow Superman |
| Bad Points |
- Weak plot - No moments where I went "Holy Shit!" or "Fuck Yeah!", pretty dull in that department - Even Black Lantern Aquaman was more hardcore than Black Lantern Superman & Lois |
All in all? A good book that I will probably continue to read. It's not a book I love, but one I enjoy. I'd recommend it to fans of Batman.
| Good Points |
- It's a self-contained book - Large cast that is fairly interesting - I want to know where the plot is headed |
| Bad Points |
- Black Mask is too bland and rip-off-y for my taste - There might be too many threads going on at the same time and some might get left hanging around in oblivion |
So, to sum up? Read this book, now. That's pretty much everything I got to say about it.
| Good Points | - ShockyCheeringFlabberghastOrgazmo-FoamingMouthSeizureJizzPantsly Good |
| Bad Points | - I'm not reading issue 65 right now |
Yeah, being able to do stuff that would never fly in the regular universe. Such as introducing A.I.M. and Red Skull. Just because you paint a cow yellow does not make it a chicken. What about actually trying to do something original? Ignoring the old stuff and try to make something new and shiny would be a start. While I am grateful that Ultimatum is over and that we can ignore it as best we can; It was an event that was supposed to release the Ultimate Universe from the grip of the regular one... and what is the first thing to be introduced in the two issues of this Brave New Universe (UcSM and this)? Shroud, A.I.M. and Red Skull. How quaint.
| Good Points |
- It isn't Ultimatum - Nick is back from that other shithole of a Universe - Perun is on the cover, which could be an interesting replacement of Thor (especially fail-Thor from Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum) |
| Bad Points |
- I'm still pissed off at Ultimatum - It will be delayed |
So what is this book about? It is about a lost love and then freaky love with re-animated dead girls, no wait that's the porno Re-Penetrator. The book is about dead people, who come back and then do stuff. It's very good, because Zombies RULE! Are these guys zombies? I hope so, because plain old dead people suck. Also the fonts are nice.
| Good Points |
- Guy Gardner - Implied Necrophilia is implied - Awesome art |
| Bad Points |
- Guy Gardner is not on every page and every panel - Mongul keeps re-locating every other issue, it's getting old - The Black Hand seems to have vanished |
This is a great book, which smells both like a freshly printed book and old Clown with a drinking problem who hasn't showered in four weeks. The new villain Zodiac is an interesting one, one part Jigsaw (from Saw), one part Carnage (from Carnage), and one part Joker (from The Dark Knight).
| Good Points |
- Norman and H.A.M.M.E.R. gets mindfucked - They beat Johnny Storm into a freakin' coma - This is what Lethal Legion should have aspired to be |
| Bad Points |
- It feels too contained, as if all the chaos and carnage does not translate into the regular Marvel U - More of Norman slowly going insane would have been nice |
All in all? One of the things I was looking forward to this week, to be honest pretty much the only thing I was really looking forward to. And it did deliver, in spades. Highly recommended! Also the fonts were nice.
| Good Points |
- Excellent story - Interesting characters - Can't wait for the next issue |
| Bad Points |
- This isn't a weekly book - It will end at some time :( |
All in all. I wasn't put off by the book, I acknowledge its lacks but I can't hold them against it. Strange I know, I would not recommend it to other people, but I would not be ashamed of having read it. It is a medium-quality comic book, not bad, not spectacular, just a read that won't make you scream out in agony "WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU PEOPLE STILL BUYING ULTIMATUM!?". Also the fonts were nice.
| Good Points |
- Decent Story - Possibilities for Wonder Man character advancement - It's not Ultimatum |
| Bad Points | - Story did not engulf me, not something I will remember in five years |
Eh, why did I bother reading this? Most of it was Boring, except the Kilowog bit, which should have been the entire comic in my opinion. At least it's over now, bring on Blackest Night!
| Good Points |
- Kilowog was cool - Kilowog ate a squid, after he strangled it to death! He should be called KILL-OWog! |
| Bad Points |
- Yes, we get it... Sinestro used to be a good guy... please stop hammering this into our brain - The parts not about Kilowog was dull, boring and meh |
All in all? It is worth picking up, since it is both The Goon and Dethklok. Even a bad Goon/Dethklok book is still fucking awesome and we should support this endeavor so they will do another one. I can guarantee that you will either laugh out loud or be haunted in your dreams by Gyspy G-MILFS. Also the fonts were nice.
| Good Points |
- It is a funny book, which is probably the only thing that I should have expected. - It's not bad, compared to certain other books this week, this one is pretty damn good - I'm Franky and I do Cocaine! |
| Bad Points |
-Dethklok visuals -It did not live up to expectations |
