Siege issue two is out and boy is it giving me a SPLITTING head ache. I'd make myself some coffee to help cope with it, but I'm all out of HALF AND HALF. If you want to know what all the jokes are about, read the review!
Last time on Siege: Norman got his excuse to attack Asgard and swiftly did so. Asgard wasn't expecting it and got their asses handed to them. Then Thor showed up and he got HIS ass handed to him. Oh, and the bonus material had a huge flub where the first page was printed twice with no third page. All printing issues aside, it was a decent beginning, but then again I've said the same thing for Secret Invasion AND Blackest Night. One of those turned sour, while the other just doesn't want to end. So is Siege #2 the issue that sells me on the event? Yes, yes it is.
So what has me sold on Siege? Well, it's a number of things actually. One example is that this issue is jam-packed with action. From the very beginning we start with Ares and Balder fighting in a beautiful two page spread. From there the action stops only twice, to show us what SteveCap and his rounded up team of heroes are up to. Outside of that, there really isn't much break in the gratuitously violent action. We have everything from Maria Hill firing rockets at Osborn and a few of his cronies to Thor giving Daken a nice crispy layer of hurt. I even like what was done with the Sentry here; this issue finally seems to show where it is he stands.
Okay, so here's the part where I say "spoiler alert"; okay, if you're reading this that means you probably want to know what I have to say, otherwise skip this paragraph. So the big "OH FUCK" moment of this issue comes via the Sentry when he tears Ares in two. Vertically. As in, "Oh shit, that's his spine breaking, and those are his organs and blood spraying all over." And now you know what all the puns were about. I can't wait to see how the heroes deal with the Sentry. Really Bendis, you have my full attention now.
Also, I've got to note that I love how SteveCap and the other heroes get to the battlefield; Nick Fury has a super awesome warp ship. It's totally cool. It also helped emphasize the fact that this is only 4 issues. We're already half way done.
The Art is this issue is fantastic. Mr. Coipel did a stand up job on this one. The violence was gratuitously violent, the splitting scene in particular was insane. Steve Rogers looked like I imagine Steve Rogers should. Sentry looks insane.
Overall, this is a great issue; this is the issue that has me sold. It's also nice to say two months in that we're half way through.

One wonders why on earth people seem to think Blackest Night is worth reading. I've read every issue so far and thought it was kinda complete crap.
For the actual issue itself, I did not see that coming. That's nice. What I didn't see coming and didn't understand at all was why Ares suddenly switched sides. This Asgardian comes up to him and goes "Trust me, I'm telling the truth!" and Ares goes "Okay! Osborn, I will punch the shit out of you now... Oh, hi Sentry!" This is pretty thin. And why on earth would anyone be surprised that Norman was lying?
Also, for the first time ever, I like Cap. His "Let's take this country back"-line was just very charming and typical for a character like him, if a bit clichéd.
